Costa Rica is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Few places in the world can boast of having so many bird different species, over 900 species have been identified, these birds make Costa Rica their year round home or their migratory destination.

Costa Rica offers great birdwatching opportunities within relatively short distances, from sea level to high mountains above 11.000 f.a.s.l. In Costa Rica alone, there are 12 of the planet’s 18 different life zones, our ecosystems range from the dry tropical climate of the Nicoya Peninsula to the humid lowlands of the Caribbean coast. In summary, Costa Rica has an incredible array of habitats and micro-ecosystems and within every ecosystem, the birding possibilities are practically endless.

We’ve created 2 different tour options, in order to include different landscapes:

Option one: This takes you a few hundred meters above sea level to the mountains of Mal País; a private forest reserve adjacent to Cabo Blanco National Park. Here you will be surrounded by fascinating forest and ocean views and have the opportunity to see non-coastal bird species, such as: Tanagers, Woodcreepers, Hummingbirds, Becards, Manakins, Toucans, Euphonias, Puffbirds and Warblers. 

Option two: This takes you to the lowlands, rivers, and the open areas located to the north of Santa Teresa. Here you will have the opportunity to see water birds, raptors and more species such as: Limpkin, Herons, Sandpipers, Hawks and Falcons, Thick-knees, Parrots, Trogons, Kingfishers, Motmots among others.
