Northern Pacific Lowlands 

The is one of the flattest regions of Costa Rica, with savannah plains, tropical dry forest and beaches of great beauty as the dominant ecosystems of the western part of this northern region. Average temperature in the province of Guanacaste is 28°C but it can rise during March and April, which are the driest and hottest months in this region.

The northern pacific lowlands are mainly flat, except for the volcanoes located in the eastern part of this area, these volcanoes are known as the Guanacaste Volcanic Mountain Range, made up of four different volcanoes, Orosi, Rincón de la Vieja, Miravalles and Tenorio. The rest of the territory has slight slopes that end in the coastline.

The southern part of this region counts with the large Tempisque river, which forms rich wetlands and mangroves along its course, vital ecosystems for migratory and water birds.
