Surfing Santa Teresa and surrounding beaches

Playa Santa Teresa is the spot where you’ll find consistent year-round waves. Warm water and offshore breezes make great conditions at this sandy beach break with clean left and right waves. Swells vary from waist high to double overhead. At low tide, this long sandy bottom beach it’s a great place for beginners, while seasoned surfers get their crystal blue walls of water in the outside waves.

Santa Teresa is one of the world’s top surf towns. Surfers of all levels won’t want to miss the glassy late afternoon waves when the sky explodes with colors as the sun dips.

We offer a surf program to meet everyone's needs. Whether you have never surfed before and always dreamed of learning, or if you just want to improve your skills, we have the coaching that will help you reach your goals.

Surf lessons can take place in the morning or afternoon, depending on the tide and swell conditions. Our instructors will take you to the best possible surf spots, and make sure that you do not get into any dangerous situations. Safety first!


Beginner Sessions Guide

This is where you will learn the fundamentals of surfing. If you have only surfed a couple of times or if it is your first time, this is where the dream becomes reality. We aim to provide an excellent surfing experience, in order to help you grow your abilities and to help you reach your surfing goals.

  • Beach orientation: description of each beach safe zones and danger zones.

  • Surfer-to-Surfer awareness and Sport’s rules.

  • Basic equipment knowledge

  • Paddling thru waves

  • Catching whitewater waves

  • Turning to catch waves

  • Standing up / Pop up

  • Correct body movements and foot placement.


Intermediate Sessions Guide

Once you have the fundamentals down in the whitewater, popping up to your feet with grace and speed and riding to the beach, it is time to move on to the next level of surfing,  open faces! Just one and you will never want to return to the whitewater again.

Quick Guide:

  • Improving wave count and wave selection.

  • Pumping (generating speed).

  • Head, shoulder and leg movements and foot positioning.

  • Rail to rail transitions.

  • Bottom turn to top turn combo.

  • Cutbacks.

Quick Guide:

  • Availability: daily.

  • Departure: tide and swell dependent, please ask.

  • Length: 2 hours.

  • What to bring: sandals or water shoes, sunscreen, water resistant camera, towel, swimwear, hat.

  • Suggested Transportation: car rental or taxi to surfing spot. Surf lessons are generally run in Playa Hermosa, located 2 km north from Santa Teresa beach.

  • Max. Occupancy: each surf instructor will handle no more than 3 students per class, in order to provide a personalized service and for safety reasons.
